Horace ("Pete") C. Peterson
Horace Carroll “Pete” Peterson, 90 of Durand, IL died peacefully at 8:37 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2020 in his home.
Pete was born March 20, 1930 in Chicago, IL the son of Mr. and Mrs Harold C. and Margaret (Thorderson) Peterson. Many of his childhood years were spent in Merrill, WI. He graduated from Broadview Academy in the class of 1950. Upon graduating, Pete joined the US Navy during the Korean War where he served on the USS Lloyd Thomas. After his years in the Navy (1951-1954), he attended Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI, graduating with a BS degree in 1961. He was employed as a 6th grade teacher by Mannheim Schools, District #83 in Franklin Park, IL. Pete retired after teaching for 33 years, all at Scott School. He married Frances Panos on November 7, 1953 in Washington DC. and Jean Waring on October 8, 1977 in Niles, IL.
Survivors include sisters Helen Schourup; Thelma (Norman) Baptist, nephew Stephen (Edna) Baptist, nieces Kathe (Tom) Miller, Holly (Jeff) Beal and many great nephews and nieces; daughter Katherine Reed; daughter-in-law Brenda Peterson, grandson Brian (Marilyn) Mertz, granddaughters Jennifer (Jesse) Kleinsasser, Michelle Peterson, great-grandchildren James, Brendan, Bryce, Emily, and great-great grandchildren Aria and Maliki.
Predeceased by his parents, his wives, and son James Randolph Peterson.
Cremation Rites were Accorded. Private ceremonies were held. McCorkle Funeral Home - Durand Chapel assisted the family.
Pete was a regular attendee at our reunions.
